US-Lebanese JV begins film production

Beirut, July 13, 2010

Cedex Plastics, a US-Lebanese joint venture (JV), has begun manufacturing co-extruded polyethylene films for the North American market at its plant in Zouk Mosbeh, Lebanon.

The JV between US-based Exopack, a leader in paper and plastic solutions, and multinational manufacturing group Indevco, a global production and distribution firm for packaging and consumer disposables, culminated from a strategic alliance to source PE-based materials from the Middle East to serve North American markets.

“This joint venture will have a significant impact on the markets it will serve,” said Rabih Frem, Cedex Plastics chairman. “It binds two important players of the flexible packaging industry.”

“For Indevco, this alliance underscores the significance of Cedex Plastics for our regional and export operations and its contribution to our overall growth strategy.”

“It is very important in our world today to be a global supplier of the best product, at a very low cost, made with the right culture backing it,” said Jack Knott, Exopack chairman and CEO.

“What I found with Indevco and the Frem family is that they built a great business that was much respected. It has a true focus on people, on technology, and it is very entrepreneurial. The thought was that would bring a lot of value to the customers in North America,” he added.

Cedex Plastics will produce high-clarity shrink film and corrugated case overwrap film, as well as heavy-duty shrink bundling film, a statement said.

The plant will later expand to produce lamination film, surface printable film, and towel and tissue wrap, it added. – TradeArabia News Service
