GAM allows licensing of plastic factories
Amman, March 24, 2010
Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has affirmed its approval on issuing licenses for plastic factories, provided that the environmental requirements determined by the Ministry of Environment are met.
GAM clarified that 29 licenses have been issued for factories in Sahab and Al Mwaggar upon making sure that they comply with the environmental requirements.
The municipality also said that violators correct any wrong action or lack thereof, giving them ample time to carry out the processes.
GAM stressed its keenness on the cleanliness and safety of the environment, and emphasised the reason behind its previous decision to ban the licenses issuance, was for health and environment protection purposes.
It added that many claims were reported on the plastic factories situated in housing areas, and that they have many negative impacts on the health of these areas’ inhabitants, like the noise, the bad odors, and the dangerous emissions, in addition to the visual pollution resulting from the accumulated wastes.
GAM called on the factories’ owners to resort to the directorates of the two regions to amend their conditions according the requirements to obtain the necessary permissions.
GAM stressed its concern with the health and safety of the citizens, simultaneously with its support to the national industry and encouraging it to best serve the public interest. – TradeArabia News Service
