GE opens service centre in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, February 28, 2008

GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies has opened its first dedicated calibration, repair and training service centre in Abu Dhabi at the CERT Technology Park.

President and CEO of GE, Middle East and Africa Nabil Habayeb opened the service and training facility in the presence of global general manager, GE Measurement Solutions, Tim Povall and CEO, CERT Technology Park, Dr Bob Richards, said an official spokesman.

The new facility will serve all Gulf countries outside Saudi Arabia and is a further demonstration of GE's commitment to on-going investment in the region and the company's emphasis on imparting training solutions to the local population.

International experts from GE explained the latest developments in technology and instrumentation at the opening ceremony.

"GE is proud to be added to the impressive list of national and multinational corporations on the CERT technology park.  It is ideally located in the Gulf, which is one of the most important oil and petrochemical regions in the world,” said regional service manager, MEA for GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies, Brian Hempenstall.

“This is an industrial sector that relies very heavily on sensing instrumentation for pressure, temperature moisture, gas and flow.  It is also an industrial sector where non-destructive testing is critical to safe asset management and to maintaining production outputs. The creation of our new calibration, training and repair facility will ensure that we can now move even closer to our Gulf customers to ensure that they receive the very best, both in terms of equipment and service."

The new Abu Dhabi service centre will offer state-of-the-art calibration equipment for pressure and moisture sensors, particularly for the oil and gas and aerospace sectors, and will be the only resource in the region capable of calibrating GE's range of moisture meters. It will also provide an on-site repair service for these products and will have the capability to up-grade existing customer equipment by the fitting of specific, manufacturer's software.

Training will also be an important function at the centre for both GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies. Typical non-destructive testing courses will cover the use of GE's ultrasonic, remote visual inspection, radiography and eddy current equipment.

In addition, the centre will provide a base for GE's qualified field services personnel and will have the capability to carry-out basic repairs to simple NDT equipment, such as flaw detectors. – TradeArabia News Service
