Premier urges China to invest in Bahrain

Manama, October 30, 2008

Bahrain's Premier on Wednesday called on China's giant corporations to seize exciting opportunities to invest in Bahrain.

"We are bidding for a strong economy and our huge achievements so far are the result of careful planning," he told a Chinese Press delegation, according to a report in our sister publication, the Gulf Daily News.

Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa made his remarks before he visits Nanjing next week, where he will present the $100,000 United Nations Habitat Award in his name.

He will head a high-level delegation from Bahrain, including ministers and media leaders.

He said that Bahrain deeply respected and admired China's achievements, and hoped to develop political relations and enhance commercial and economic partnerships.

GCC countries are of prime importance to the world economy because they possess oil. But stability is vital for the region to play its full role. Another war would be disastrous, he said.

Globalisation means that any crisis will affect the whole of international society, so he urged developed countries to responsibly tackle the present financial crunch.

The Premier reiterated Bahrain's firm and historic stance in support of achieving peace in the Middle East as an essential guarantee for stability.

On the Iranian nuclear issue, he said that countries should have the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. - TradeArabia News Service
