Iraq's Fallujah needs $2bn for reconstruction

FALLUJAH, Iraq, August 15, 2017

The Fallujah city in Iraq's Anbar province needs $2 billion for reconstruction, the city’s mayor has said.

Eissa Al Sayer was quoted as saying in an Aljournal News report that world donors should focus donations on service projects rather than the infrastructure.

Al Sayer stated that the sanitation sector needed $50 million, the water services $10 million and the municipality $15 million just to begin clearance and reconstruction.

In May, the Iraqi government approved a 10-year scheme for the rehabilitation of areas liberated from IS worth $100 billion, saying it would secure the finances depending on international loans and grants, said an Iraq Business News report.
