$800m development projects under way in Madinah

Saudi government is presently working on over 1,148 projects in Madinah worth over SR3 billion ($800 million) and aim to complete it within the next year, said a report.
These include developmental projects such as building playing fields and public parks which will cost SR9 million besides the work on repairing the tunnels and bridges in the first roundabout area and the project of the consultation on the city’s infrastructure, reported the Saudi Gazette, citing sources.
Municipalities, universities, directorates and commissions are all working hard to achieve their ambitious goals, they stated.
The city has already achieved 39 per cent of the planned projects. Over 20 per cent of the planned projects are of big scale, 36.84 of the planned projects are of medium scale and 42 per cent of the planned projects are of small scale, they added.
Madinah officials are presently working on an ambitious project for the kingdom - King Abdulaziz Specialist Hospital with the capacity of 500 beds and Childbirth and Maternity Hospital with the capacity for 400 beds.
Some of the other key developments underway include the Madinah shuttles project which is estimated to cost SR78.9 million and the SR57 million King Faisal Road project besides 13 new projects worth SR256 million planned for the 2017 in The Islamic University at Madinah, said the report.
Another major project coming up in Madinah is a 400-bed university hospital at the College of Medicine to be built at a cost of SR500 million.
The city will also work on health sector projects such as a SR200 million mental health hospital in Yanbu, it added.
