Bahrain calls for helping the poor

Washington, October 14, 2008

A call to protect developing and poor countries from the aftershocks of the global economic crisis went out from Bahrain on Monday.

Aid promised to help countries develop and combat poverty or climate change must go ahead, despite the crisis, said Finance Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, said a report in our sister publication, the Gulf Daily News.

Food supplies must be protected, to avoid a human catastrophe and poorer countries must be equipped to help themselves, with transfer of expertise and the means to improve their infrastructure, he told a World Bank development committee meeting in Washington, DC. - TradeArabia News Service
