Oman and Myanmar have signed an air services agreement aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in civil aviation, expanding air connectivity and creating new opportunities for transport and airline services.
The agreement was
signed by Naif Al Abri, Chairman of Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and
U Zaw Zaw, Director General of Myanmar’s Department of Civil Aviation.
The deal establishes a
regulatory and operational framework governing air transport between the two
countries, supporting the development of passenger and cargo services while
facilitating greater cooperation between their aviation sectors.
Comprising 26 articles
and an annex outlining air routes, the agreement covers key economic,
regulatory and operational aspects of air transport.
It allows designated
national airlines from both countries to operate passenger and cargo flights in
accordance with mutually agreed terms and regulations.
It also provides
opportunities for airlines to expand code-sharing arrangements on joint
flights, offering passengers more travel options while improving operational
efficiency and encouraging commercial partnerships.
The agreement forms
part of Oman’s broader strategy to expand its international air transport
network, strengthen its position in the global aviation system and establish
frameworks that support the sector’s continued growth.
It is also expected to
consolidate Oman-Myanmar relations in civil aviation by clarifying air
transport rights, supporting service development and enabling both countries to
benefit from emerging opportunities in the sector.
Oman currently
maintains bilateral air transport agreements with 135 countries, reflecting its
commitment to strengthening international aviation partnerships, drawing on
global expertise and supporting the expansion of airline services. -TradeArabia News Service
