SLB has been selected as strategic reservoir partner for the Havstjerne carbon storage project in the Norwegian North Sea, providing technology and engineering services during the concept and front-end engineering and design (FEED) phases.
The large-scale offshore project, operated by Harbour Energy
in partnership with Stella Maris CCS, a Yinson Production company, is designed
to provide carbon storage capacity for industrial emitters across Europe.
SLB will coordinate an integrated scope covering reservoir
analysis, injection well design, subsea infrastructure and CO2 monitoring.
The work will help establish the project’s technical, cost
and schedule basis ahead of a final investment decision.
The company will handle early engineering, subsurface and
reservoir development, and wells, while its OneSubsea joint venture will lead
the concept and FEED for the subsea injection system.
This will include the template manifold, all-electric trees,
control system, umbilical and distribution system.
SLB said the integrated approach could improve coordination
across the carbon storage system while reducing technical and contractual
interfaces.
An appraisal well drilled in 2025 confirmed reservoir
quality suitable for CO2 injection and storage, supporting the project’s
continued development.
Havstjerne received €225 million ($262 million) from the EU
Innovation Fund in 2025 and has selected a low-pressure floating storage and
injection concept designed to prioritise reliability, cost efficiency and
commercial flexibility.

large-scale carbon storage projects.”
