Syria's General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport on August 5 announced the reopening of Deir ez-Zor International Airport after nearly 14 years of closure, following the completion of maintenance and rehabilitation works.

The airport received its first domestic Syrian Air flight from Damascus International Airport, marking the resumption of regular services between the two cities.

It also welcomed its first international flight from Kuwait, operated by Syrian Air, signalling the restart of international operations, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The Authority said the launch of the domestic and international routes is part of broader efforts to expand Syria's air transport network, revive domestic aviation, facilitate passenger travel, support economic and investment activity, and strengthen connectivity between the country's governorates and international destinations.
