JERA, Japan’s power generation company, has been certified by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) as a Supplier of Low-Carbon Hydrogen and its Derivatives under the “Support Focusing on the Price Gap” Scheme established by the Hydrogen Society Promotion Act.
Leveraging this support, JERA plans to
supply low-carbon ammonia from the Blue Point Project in Louisiana to the
Hekinan Thermal Power Station—one of Japan’s largest plants pursuing
commercial-scale ammonia co-firing—as well as to other industrial and commercial
customers.
The certification integrates JERA’s
initiatives across production, transportation, and power generation, marking a
significant milestone in its hydrogen and ammonia strategy.
JERA
aims to complete Japan’s first end-to-end low-carbon ammonia value chain by
fiscal year 2029, supporting national and corporate decarbonisation goals.
The company has adopted a comprehensive
investment approach spanning the entire ammonia value chain to accelerate
deployment.-TradeArabia News Service
