British explorer to cross KSA on foot in historic expedition

AlUla, 2 days ago

British explorer and TV presenter Alice Morrison is gearing up for a one-of-a-kind adventure, set to make history as the first person to traverse Saudi Arabia on foot from the far north to the far south in an ambitious five-month journey that kicks off on January 1, 2025, reported SPA.

Covering an impressive 2,500 kilometers and involving local guides and camels, Morrison will navigate the Kingdom’s vast deserts, lush oases, and towering mountains.

Her journey is anchored by three key objectives: to discover new landmarks and delve into the depths of history, to highlight the vital role of Saudi women in society, and to showcase the beauty of the natural landscape and the Kingdom’s efforts to conserve nature.

By retracing the paths of ancient caravans, Morrison aims to illuminate the historical narratives that define this region, offering fresh perspectives on a Saudi Arabia undergoing rapid transformation and development.

One of the pivotal stops on Morrison's route will be AlUla, renowned for its rich history and heritage. This location is familiar territory for Morrison, who previously featured it in her latest series, “Arabian Adventures: The Secrets of the Nabateans.”

“I have been studying Arabic and the Middle East for 45 years,” Morrison said, reflecting on her expedition. “Now, I get to explore the heart of Arabia.”

As a female explorer, Morrison added that she is also willing to spend time with Saudi women telling their stories.

“The route I am taking is stuffed with history, so I’ll be searching for new sites. I’m also walking through climate change and will be recording my findings,” Morrison remarked. “The desert is a harsh mistress, and I am sure she will be teaching me many lessons along the route.”

“I am a mid-life woman (61) and I hope my adventure inspires others to get out and follow their dreams. I couldn’t have attempted this at 25; I needed the life experience to get me here.” -TradeArabia News Service
