Indonesia warns against travel to tsunami-hit Sunda Strait

INDONESIA, December 23, 2018

After high waves hit the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra on December 22, killing at least 168 people, tourism authorities have warned travellers in coastal areas around the Sunda Strait to stay away as high tides are expected till December 25.

The Tourism Minister of Republic of Indonesia, Arief Yahya, has activated the Tourism Crisis Center (TCC) to monitor the progress of the disaster and coordinate with all relevant National Boards and departments such as Disaster Management Board, Local Tourism Department, and various tourism stakeholders around the disaster area to collect and gather information about affected tourism ecosystems and provide services for tourists.

Tourists and residents are requested to follow government official sites or social media accounts such as @infoBMKG and @BNPB_Indonesia for up-to-date information on the current situation. - TradeArabia News Service
