Omran to revive Nizwa Fort

MUSCAT, November 5, 2017

Oman's Nizwa Fort will soon be restored to its former glory following the signing of a new agreement between Omran, Oman’s tourism development company, and local company Bawader International, said a report.

The new partnership will allow visitors to enjoy a world-class heritage destination that celebrates the history of Oman and its local culture, through combining it with modern facilities and services, said a report in Oman Observer.

Under the agreement, Omran will handle the management of the fort as well as undertake the promotion and maintenance of the structure.

Peter Walichnowski, CEO of Omran, said, “The appointment of local company Bawader International demonstrates successful collaborations between Omran and the private sector to develop the tourism industry and enhance the commercial offering of the Sultanate.

He added, “Bawader International has a proven track record in Nizwa and a wealth of experience in the management of cultural and historic destinations. We look forward to witnessing their contribution to make this national treasure one of the most visited sites in the Sultanate.”

Ahmed bin Sultan al Yarubi, Board Member of Bawader International, said, “Nizwa Fort is one of our most exciting projects — as part of the rejuvenation process, we will incorporate new facilities and services to enhance the visitors’ experience.

"We will also introduce guide services that will take guests on an educational journey through the fort, showcasing traditional restaurants, Omani handicrafts, costumes and a museum.”

Bawader International will gradually enhance the experience over the coming months which will see the introduction of a gift shop, restaurant, coffee shop, as well as improved ticketing and online booking services, the report said. - TradeArabia News Service
