ABU DHABI, July 31, 2017

Reiner Lupfer has been appointed as the new executive chef at Shangri-La Hotel and Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi.

Bringing more than two decades of culinary expertise to the luxury property, Reiner gathered his culinary degree from Claude Dornier Hotel Management & Culinary Institute of Germany in 1999.

At the age of 23, he was at the helm of Hotel Restaurant Heinzler when it was awarded 1 Michelin Star and 16 points in the Guild Gault Millau. The recognitions won Reiner his first overseas position as Chef Tournant in Bermuda, followed by a stint as Chef de Cuisine in Scotland.

In his new role as executive chef, Reiner will lead the culinary team of Shangri-La and Traders hotels in the Qaryat Al Beri complex, overseeing 10 restaurants and bars, 10 banquet and conference spaces, and in-room dining.

Reiner has been exploring the five-star hotel industry across Asia and the Middle East since 2007, overseeing the food operations of the multiple food and beverage outlets at established hotels in countries like Bahrain, China, Malaysia and Thailand. During his tenure in China, Reiner successfully led events for the 2016 G20 Hangzhou summit delegation.

Lupfer said: “I am excited to be at the helm of the kitchens at such a reputable property. I am especially thrilled to be working with the award-winning restaurants like Bord Eau, Sofra bld and Shang Palace. I believe that being a chef is great, but being involved in the entire success of the hotel is even more satisfying. In my new role as executive chef, I hope to uphold Qaryat Al Beri complex’s reputation as a culinary destination for tourists and residents in the capital.” - TradeArabia News Service
