Guggenheim Museum releases new free app for iPad
NEW YORK, August 6, 2015
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum has released the Guggenheim iPad app, which offers a unique exploratory experience from anywhere in the world.
Developed by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Acoustiguide Interactive ,the free app is available to download at guggenheim.org/app. An extension of the existing Guggenheim app for iPhones and Android handsets, the new iPad app brings together a rich array of content highlighting the museum’s collections and exhibitions as well as its publications archive, offering access to more than 100 out-of-print titles dating back to the 1930s.
The app encourages deeper engagement with multimedia content through slideshows, audio commentary, essays, and video interviews with artists and curators. It also features easy navigation by category, including Artworks, Building, Collection, Exhibitions, Publications, and Video. Users can explore the history of the museum and its Frank Lloyd Wright–designed building; interact with content from current and past exhibitions; and access information about more than 1,600 artworks from the museum’s collection.
The Guggenheim app has been designed to be accessible for users with disabilities. In addition to a video-based guide to select works in the museum’s Thannhauser Collection presented in American Sign Language (ASL), the app features transcripts and video closed captioning for users who are deaf or hard of hearing. The app is also compatible with VoiceOver and offers text enlargement options for users who are blind or have low vision.
The app is supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies as part of the Bloomberg Connects initiative, a global commitment to increase access to cultural institutions and enhance visitor experiences through cutting edge technology and digital engagement. – TradeArabia News Service
