Oman Air’s IT Disaster Recovery unit to relocate

MUSCAT, April 26, 2015

Oman Air’s IT Disaster Recovery infrastructure will move from its current location to a state-of-the-art data park in Muscat.

The move will follow the signing of an agreement between Oman Air and Oman Data Park (ODP), which has been awarded the contract following a tender process.

Under the terms of the agreement, ODP will be responsible for providing and managing the secure data centre infrastructure, including server racks, power, cooling, fire protection, physical security including biometric access, and other functions. Management and administration of the hosted IT remain under Oman Air IT Department’s supervision and control.

Paul Gregorowitsch, Oman Air’s chief executive officer, said: “We are pleased to be launching this new partnership between Oman Air and Oman Data Park. It is vital that the security of Oman Air’s IT Disaster Recovery services mirrors the same high standards of all our other operations. By moving this essential infrastructure from its current location to ODP we are better able to ensure business continuity in the event of a crisis. In addition, this partnership will allow us to accelerate IT improvements and developments.

“As Oman Air continues its ambitious programme of fleet and network expansion, the complexity of our IT services can only increase. Working with ODP will enable Oman Air to focus on our core business and minimise operational challenges. We will be able to adapt more quickly to change and make the most of the latest technology to create a flexible, stable and scalable IT Infrastructure,” he said.

Sami Ahmed Al Ghassani, Oman Data Park’s chairman, said: “Oman Data Park’s (ODP’s) best-in-class cloud and hosting services have helped to change the way businesses operate in the sultanate, and have transformed IT as a utility. We are delighted that Oman Air has chosen ODP’s fully secure environment for disaster recovery, dedicated infrastructure, managed hosting and other allied services. These will be provided under a guaranteed service level agreement (SLA) that enhances operational efficiency. In addition, our state-of-the-art Tier 3 data centre at KOM-4 offers the highest level of security, and will provide Oman Air with all the necessary support as it undergoes its current phase of rapid growth.”

Oman Data Park is a joint venture company owned by the Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) and 4-Trust, a part of National Trading Company. – TradeArabia News Service
