$10,000 stolen from travel agency in Bahrain
MANAMA, September 4, 2014
Two masked men broke into a travel agency in Bahrain and stole more than BD3,800 ($10,018.5) in cash and cheques.
It was the second time in 16 months that the Royal Gulf Travel and Tourism, which represents Syrian Air, has been robbed, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
Police have launched a manhunt after the men were caught on CCTV cameras yesterday morning.
Surveillance footage shows one of the men breaking the glass door and entering the property while the other waited outside.
“They broke the glass door to enter the shop and took all the cash, which was more than BD3,800,” said owner and general manager Maitham Sabt.
“Our employees arrived later in the day to open the shop, located in Jid Ali, and found the glass door shattered.
“They alerted me and I called the police.
“The incident took place between 2am and 4.30am when no-one was there.
“The footage shows one man entering the shop and the other waiting for him outside.
“This man was in the shop for almost three hours and he managed to take all the cash, cheques and agreements.”
In April last year, two masked men broke into the same agency and fled with more than $20,000, but Mr Sabt said police never arrested any suspects.
“It's been more than a year and we didn't get any update from police about arrests. I don't know what they are doing to stop these incidents from taking place,” he added.
“We have a security guard and CCTV cameras but it's useless.”
Police sources confirmed the incident and said an investigation has been launched. - TradeArabia News Service
