Oberoi resumes talks for 2 Abu Dhabi hotels

Abu Dhabi, August 5, 2014

India-based Oberoi hotels group has restarted talks with Aldar, a major real estate developer, to build two hotels in Abu Dhabi, a report said.

Oberoi Hotels and Resorts had signed an agreement in 2007 for luxury hotels in Aldar’s Yas Island and Al Raha Beach projects, added the report in The National.

“Both these projects were put on hold due to the worldwide financial meltdown,” PRS Oberoi, executive chairman of the Oberoi Group, was quoted as saying in the report.

“As the market is now more buoyant, we are re-engaging with Aldar to bring the Oberoi experience to the emirate.”

Aldar did not immediately respond to queries about the projects, the report said.

While Oberoi already has a property in Dubai’s Business Bay, its second hotel in the country, Oberoi Al Zorah, a 115-room beach resort, is expected to open in Ajman in the fourth quarter of 2015, the report noted.
