Herba prepares for the record climb.

Cycling record marks Rotana Dubai anniversary

Dubai , January 31, 2012

Rose Rayhaan by Rotana Dubai, one of the world’s tallest hotels, celebrated its second anniversary in style with an exciting, record breaking stair climbing action from renowned Polish cyclist Krystian Herba.

Herba made a new world record for Stair Climbing by Bicycle conquering 2,040 steps of the iconic hotel in 1 hour, 13 minutes and 41 seconds, said a statement from Rotana.

The old record in Stair Climbing by Bicycle was previously done in China with 2008 steps and had remained unbeaten for the past four years.

The historical climb started yesterday (January 30) at 11 am after a small start-off ceremony attended by the UAE media, Polish supporters, the hotel’s VIP guests and the management team of Rotana.

It was a slow start for Krystian as he tries to acquire his momentum, but as he reached the upper floors, he started climbing with such an impressive speed showing his intense confidence.

To complete his 2040 step target, he climbed up to the 23rd floor and went down to the ground floor through the lift and once again made his way up until he reached the finish line at the hotel’s 68th floor.

It was an emotional moment for Krystian as he laid on the ground at the finish line finding it hard to believe he has indeed made the mark as the new world record holder.

An overjoyed Herba said, “What I just accomplished was a defining triumph in my career and I cannot express how happy I am to be able to get the new world record at Rose Rayhaan by Rotana. This is indeed a dream come true for me!”

Rose Rayhaan by Rotana Dubai had been preparing for this exciting feat for months and the management has been very impressed how the historical climb has unfolded, said its top official

'It is our pleasure to be the venue of such an important event in the history of stunt and trial cycling. There is nothing more suitable than holding this event than now, as the hotel celebrate its 2nd anniversary,' remarked Daniel Matthew, the hotel GM.

Since its opening in 2010 as the flagship property of Rotana’s alcohol-free brand, Rayhaan Hotels & Resorts,  the hotel has established its mark as one of Dubai’s landmarks, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
