Spinneys reassures on food sourcing

DUBAI, March 9, 2018

Spinneys, a leading retailer, has reassured consumers of its strict food sourcing policy.

The assurance follows the recent outbreak of listeria bringing the issue of food traceability into question, and the subsequent decision by the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) to ban meat imports from two South African meat manufacturers.

Matt Frost, CEO at Spinneys, said: “We welcome the move by the authorities to ban such imports and reiterate our ‘no nasties’ stance. Here at Spinneys, we are fully transparent about where the food on our shelves come from, and as such have a series of policies to give our customers total confidence in the quality of the food they are feeding their families.

"All of our meat is free of added hormones and antibiotics and over 90 per cent of our fruit and vegetables is GlobalGAP certified. Earlier this year, we partnered with agricultural assurance organisation Global G.A.P to launch a revolutionary new labelling system, giving customers total farm to fork traceability on the food they are eating – a world first," he said.

"We remain committed to providing great value, high quality sustainably sourced-products in our stores, served by knowledgeable staff focussed on delivering brilliant customer service,” Frost added. - TradeArabia News Service
