UAE MoE inspects Sahara Mall Spinneys outlet
SHARJAH, UAE, June 28, 2016
The UAE’s ministry of economy (MoE) recently conducted an inspection of supermarket chain Spinneys’ Sahara Mall outlet in Sharjah, as part of its ongoing Ramadan market inspection programme.
The inspection was done in cooperation with the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD).
Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, director of the ministry's consumer protection department, conducted today’s visit with the participation of Tariq Al Suwaidi, director of the ministry's office in Sharjah, and Nabil Salim Al Mashwi, commercial officer of SEDD’s commercial protection department.
The management of Spinneys clarified during the inspection that it has dedicated 10 discount offers during Ramadan, inclusive of around 70 items with average reductions of 10 to 25 per cent.
It added that it is committed to the price fixing initiative for 2016 which includes around 186 items, noting that the Sahara branch welcomes around 3,000 shoppers daily.
Dr Al Nuaimi noted some comments received during the visit, the most important of which was the need to clearly display the price, name and specifications in Arabic, English and other languages on Spinneys price tags.
He explained that this is in line with the commitment to the Consumer Protection Law, adding that among other future goals is the inclusion of Arabic text in the local currency as well.
The MoE also directed that the list of fixed-price items for 2016 be posted at the entrance of the stores to identify items that are subject to price cuts – including before and after prices and the discount rate, and that price detectors also be installed in stores. –TradeArabia News Service
