LG G5, first modular smartphone, hits UAE stores
DUBAI, April 13, 2016
The LG G5 and Friends, a new mobile ecosystem, is now available in the UAE, providing consumers an intuitive and personalised smartphone experience.
Equipped with the best-in-class specifications and offering experiences beyond expectations, the LG G5 is claimed to be the world’s first revolutionary modular smartphone.
A modular smartphone is a smartphone made using different components that can be independently upgraded or replaced.
LG Electronics Gulf unveiled the LG G5 at a launch event in Dubai and announced its availability across the UAE from the third week of April. The device is priced at Dh2499.
Also launched is the LG Friends, which enables the LG G5 to transform into a digital camera, hi-fi player, a virtual reality set and much more.
Yong Geun Choi, president of LG Electronics Gulf, said: “Smartphone consumers in the UAE are saturated in terms of the experiences they get from devices. The launch of the LG G5 provides us the unique opportunity to satiate the evolving consumer demands for flexibility, adaptability and fresher experiences.
“Qualcomm Technologies is pleased to work with LG to help deliver upon a shared vision of offering consumers the best mobile experiences with the new LG G5, which features one of the most cutting-edge premium tier processors, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor,” said Jay Srage, president for Middle East, Africa, and Eastern Europe, Qualcomm International. “LG and Qualcomm Technologies have a long standing relationship and we look forward to continuing our collaboration to bring innovative and exciting devices to consumers in the region.”
Premium design
Encased in a sleek metal aluminum body design and smoothly curved edges, the LG G5’s modular type full metal unibody allows various modules to be physically attached to the phone as well as slide out batteries even in case of swapping a depleted battery for a fully charged one in seconds.
The 3D Arc Glass featured in the smartphone’s 5.3-inch display creates a gentle curve and a smooth metal surface using microdising process which takes anodised aluminum to a whole new level. The phone’s insulative antenna is invisibly integrated into the body without disrupting the seamless look of the metal unibody, said Srage.
The LG G5’s display features day light mode, which offers excellent outdoor visibility. The mode automatically detects light conditions and increases the brightness of the display so that you can check the screen while your eyes are adapting to the brighter environment.
With the convenient and intuitive ‘Always-on’ Display (AoD) showing date, time and event notifications at all times, the G5’s ultra-low power display technologies are designed by LG to minimise power consumption, the company said.
Fresh experiences
Offering an enhanced audio/visual experience, LG G5’s 135 degree wide angle lens camera not only enables world’s first zoom-out of the smartphone camera, it also fully captures the entire field of vision. The LG G5 CAM Plus on the other hand delivers a DSLR-like grip and stability while taking photos/videos while the 360 CAM captures a scene in 360-degrees. In the audio zone, LG’s Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play and H3 by B&O Play lets users enjoy high-quality sound.
Taking it a step further, LG’s 360 VR (virtual reality) glasses designed to go with the LG G5 is a VR goggle that can be connected with the G5 by a dedicated cable and works exclusively with the G5. It has a stylish design that is foldable so that users can easily carry and watch VR content anytime, anywhere.
To make it more convenient and fun to use, the LG G5’s easy-to-connect and control options enable all modules and devices are connected and controlled by an app: LG Friends Manager. The users can choose and control all LG Friends to create a holistic smartphone experience, said Srage. - TradeArabia News Service
