Arab Idol star to perform live at City Centre Deira

DUBAI, April 5, 2016

Majid Al Futtaim’s City Centre Deira will celebrate the Spring Summer season with an exclusive performance by hit-maker Mohammed Assaf on April 7.

The star will take the stage to perform some of his most popular tracks, for the delight of the crowds, said a statement.

Assaf gained world recognition as a contestant on Arab Idol, which he went on to dominate and win, it said.

The Palestinian star, a self-taught singer, was given the nickname Asaroukh ('The Rocket') by Lebanese singer and Arab Idol judge Ragheb Alama.

Assaf's story is the basis of the 2015 biopic, The Idol, directed by Hany Abu-Assad.

In 2013, Assaf was named a goodwill ambassador for peace by The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

He was also named ambassador of culture and arts by the Palestinian government and was offered a position with "diplomatic standing." - TradeArabia News Service
