Lebara launches new MVNO service in Mideast

LONDON, December 17, 2014

Lebara, a leading European mobile telecoms operator for migrant communities, has launched its mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service in Saudi Arabia.

Lebara Mobile Saudi Arabia is a Saudi Arabian company supported by an alliance of major Saudi investors and Lebara Group, said a statement.

The launch comes after one of only two licences was granted by the industry regulator earlier this year, and signals a new phase in Lebara's ongoing expansion strategy, it said.

The new MVNO service has been delivered using Lebara's expertise in building partnerships with established mobile network operators and sales channels, as well as successfully marketing affordable pay-as-you-go mobile services to migrants.

Hosted by the Mobily network, Lebara's offering has been designed to appeal to the estimated 10 million expatriates living in Saudi Arabia.

Pre-paid SIM cards and recharge vouchers will be available in Saudi Post and other retailers across the country.

Prince Abdelaziz bin Mishal bin Abdelaziz Al-Saud, chairman of Lebara Mobile Saudi Arabia, said: ”We place significant importance on our alliance with Lebara. Such an alliance will play a significant role in bringing differentiated mobile services not only to the kingdom but to the region.”

Yoganathan Ratheesan, chairman and chief executive officer of Lebara Group, said: "We are thrilled to be working with our Saudi partners and we're looking forward to building more partnerships in the Gulf region. Offering high quality and low cost mobile products to migrant communities is the driving force of our business. With today's launch we'll be able to offer this service to the millions of expats living and working in Saudi Arabia, helping them stay connected to their friends and family at home.” - TradeArabia News Service
