UAE consumer electronics market ‘to hit $4bn’

UAE’s consumer electronics devices market for mobile handsets, video, audio and gaming products is expected to increase to Dh14.69billion ($4.0 billion) by 2015, said a report.

Sales for notebooks and accessories are forecast at over Dh6.61 billion in 2011with a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8 per-cent from 2011-15, added the Business Monitor International – UAE Informational Technology 2011 Q2 Report.

This will be driven by the popularity of innovative mobile handsets, smart phones, feature-rich notebooks, tablets and MP3/MP4 players among others, said a senior official of memory cards leader SanDisk, which is taking part in the upcoming seventh annual Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) Middle East and Africa (MEA) event in Fujairah.

“The forecast reports for UAE’s IT and consumer electronics are very buoyant. Based on market research globally, our key growth drivers are smart phones, tablets, PC SSD and our flash products are being developed to cater to these segments,” said Tareq Husseini, SanDisk’s regional sales director Middle East and Africa (MEA).

“Our innovative product range is testament to our commitment to the industry. This growth is also achievable with a strong support of the distributors in the region.”

SanDisk MEA will be presenting its innovative retail range for 2011 at DCC MEA, which includes the SanDisk Ultra USB drive, SanDisk Cruzer Edge USB drive and the San-Disk Extreme Pro CompactFlash card features 128 gigabytes (GB)1 of storage and  up to 100 megabyte per second (MB/sec) write speeds.

DCC MEA 2011, which is running from May 17 to 19, is a high-level channel event that attracts senior decision-makers, purchasers and IT buyers from the region’s most influential mobility, electronics and gaming retailers. – TradeArabia News Service
