Adac, Pure Gold renew retailer agreement

Dubai, April 12, 2011

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (Adac) has renewed its concession agreement with Pure Gold Jewellers to be the exclusive retail partner for gold and diamond jewellery at all Abu Dhabi International Airport terminals.

“In April 2008, Adac offered Pure Gold Jewellers the concession to manage the precious jewellery business at Abu Dhabi International Airport,” said James McLean, head of retail & financial concessions, Abu Dhabi Duty Free (ADDF).

“Since the inception of this business relationship, Adac has witnessed outstanding results across each of the airport’s core benchmarks, namely, passenger satisfaction, customer service and financial performance.”

“The extension of this agreement will further support Adac’s objectives in establishing long term win – win relationships with its retail partners. We look forward to continuing this success and growing the business with Pure Gold Jewellers in an effort to exceed passenger expectations,” he added.

During the initial three year contract period, Pure Gold Jewellers experienced a remarkable double digit growth in sales volume from its shops operating at the airport.

Firoz Merchant, chairman of Pure Gold Jewellers, said: “We are very pleased to renew our agreement with Adac. It has been a fruitful partnership of three years which has seen our business grow in tandem with the increase in passenger traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport.”

“We have a wide selection of diamond, gold and other precious jewellery which appeal to the multi-cultural profile of the passengers passing through the airport. It has been an exciting experience and we are very happy that we have met Adac’s expectations of excellent customer service, quality and variety of jewellery products.”

According to Adac’s recent performance report on Abu Dhabi International Airport, there was a 12.2 per cent growth in passenger traffic in 2010 compared with 2009, with nearly 11 million passengers passing through the airport.

Karim Merchant, MD & CEO of Pure Gold Jewellers, said: “We are proud to be present in a world class airport like Abu Dhabi International Airport which has witnessed strong passenger growth year on year. With many unique tourist attractions and Abu Dhabi’s strong economic growth, there will be increased number of passengers passing through the airport and we expect strong business performance.”

“The agreement with Adac is in line with our expansion plans in the travel retail business. We already operate stores at Muscat Duty Free and also sell our products through Dubai Duty Free. We are currently in talks with other regional duty free operators to expand our business in the sector,” he concluded. – TradeArabia News Service
