Jawad Business Group (JBG), Bahrain's pioneering retail business enterprise, has marked the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Jawad Supermarket in Barbar.

The landmark event was celebrated with a cake-cutting ceremony by JBG deputy chairman, Abbas Abdullah Hussain and board members Fatima Jawad and Sabah Jawad, with colleagues and customers.

The group, which pioneered the supermarket concept in the kingdom, began its expansion in 1980 with the opening of its first supermarket then known as Jawad Superfare.

Over the last five decades in Bahrain, JBG has come a long way since it was first founded by Hasan Mohamed Jawad in 1960 with just a grocery store and a shipping agency.

From its humble grocery store beginnings to the supermarket and retail expansion, JBG now is an umbrella group that comprises franchises with over 150 renowned international fashion, restaurant and lifestyle brands including Costa Coffee, BHS, Chilis, Burger King, Monsoon, Accessorize, Lakeland, Dairy Queen and Papa John's Pizza.-TradeArabia News Service
