World Gold Council marks India festival
Dubai, May 4, 2010
Trade partners of World Gold Council (WGC), the gold industry’s key market development body, are launching special edition gold jewellery collections as part of activities marking one of India’s auspicious festivals.
The buying of gold on Akshaya Tritiya – a holy day for Hindus – is believed to herald good luck and success and any venture or investments initiated on this day will continue to grow and bring prosperity, including buying long-term assets such as gold.
“This region is renowned all over the world for its multi-cultural environment, where people from a number of nations and cultures live in harmony, therefore offering people the unique opportunity to appreciate different cultures and their practices,” said Yogaani Bhatia, country manager UAE, World Gold Council.
“Indians are some of the world’s largest consumers of gold jewellery, and incidentally form one of the largest populations residing here in the UAE,” Bhatia added.
“It is therefore interesting to enliven an Indian festival such as Akshaya Tritiya here in the region which is dedicated to gold-buying.”
The special-edition Divine collection for Akshaya Tritiya has been created in order to emphasise the importance of keeping this ancient heritage alive and will be available at Malabar Gold stores, a statement said.
Malabar Gold & WGC are also launching interactive radio and print competitions in order to spur interest and encourage engagement in the festival throughout the region, according to the statement. – TradeArabia News Service
