Samsung Engg to use Ducab cables for Adnoc projects
ABU DHABI, November 13, 2018
Samsung Engineering, a leading engineering, procurement, construction and project management (EPC&PM) company, has signed a new agreement with UAE manufacturer Ducab for the purchase of the complete range of extra high voltage, high voltage, medium voltage and low voltage cables for major Adnoc projects in the UAE.
The cables will be used within two major projects currently being delivered on behalf of Adnoc Refining, said a statement from the company.
Today's agreement is the result of an innovative strategic partnership between the petrochemical company Borouge, an Adnoc and Borealis joint venture based in UAE, and Ducab, a leading local manufacture of cables, which has enabled the first 220kv extra high voltage power cable supply by a UAE manufacturer. The total value of the award is close to $60 million, it said.
Samsung Engineering has previously executed and completed nine projects successfully in the UAE and is currently building Adnoc Refining’s Crude Flexibility Project (CFP) and the Waste Heat Recovery Project (WHRP) in the UAE. Both projects will be supplied by Ducab, it added.
During execution of previous and current projects, Samsung Engineering has always put great emphasis on utilising UAE resources for the greater good of the UAE and Samsung Engineering itself.
Samsung Engineering’s efforts align with the Adnoc in-country value (ICV) programme, which aims to boost the development of UAE Nationals, and the localisation of critical functionalities not only in the oil and gas industry but also other industries.
Samsung Engineering being a long-term strategic partner of Adnoc group of companies and one of the prominent EPC’s in the region resonates with this initiative and strives to contribute to this program in many occasions.
Samsung Engineering is confident that together hand in hand with Adnoc and Ducab a model has been created that will not only benefit the current projects but also cascade onto projects in the GCC and Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region.
Under this arrangement, Samsung Engineering ensures to have critical elements of the value chain localised and enhance the ICV of the UAE.
Sung An Choi, president and chief executive officer of Samsung Engineering, said: “We are proud and excited to award Ducab with this major contract.”
“With our experience and successfully delivery of numerous projects to the UAE and Ducab’s expertise we are confident to deliver safe and sustainable projects to the UAE which will boost the ICV,” he added.
Engineer Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, chairman of Ducab, said: “At our company, we are committed to be the highest-quality global cable manufacturer, providing smart, safe, and environmentally conscious cable solutions across all industry verticals.”
“We are delighted to be the chosen supplier of power cable requirements for these Adnoc projects as we have invested in developing this full range of cable solutions tailored for the oil and gas sector,” he said.
“Well supported by initiatives such as In-Country Value, the OGP sector will be a key driver for this transformation and will encourage the development of not only the hydrocarbon industry but also the other local sectors such as real estate, aviation, industry, transport, health and education—both directly and indirectly—by the gains from the OGP operations,” he added.
Jasem Ali Al Sayegh, chief executive officer, Adnoc Refining, said: “Commitment to sourcing local suppliers, particularly innovation led companies like DUCAB, and maximising local content in the supply chain is a critical factor in how we at Adnoc Refining evaluate our international contractors.”
“In country value is a key parameter for us in all future tender awards and we recognise the great efforts of Samsung Engineering and Ducab in that regard. As a company with many projects we will continue in encouraging the use of local UAE suppliers to our main contractors,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
