Qatar to float 700MW solar plant tender by year-end

DOHA, October 10, 2018

Qatar is set to issue tender for the construction of a large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in an area west of capital Doha by year-end, said a report.

The 700MW project is being structured as build-own-operate-transfer (Boot) venture for 25 years where the ownership will be transferred to Qatar's General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) after the end of the term, reported Gulf Times.

The project will be based on public-private partnership (PPP) concept for the encouragement of investment in large-scale projects, it stated.

A 10-sq-km plot of land near Al Kharsaah area has been allotted for the construction of the solar power plant, said the report.

As a first stage, 350 MW will be connected to the grid by 2020 in achievement of the strategic objective set in Qatar National Development Strategy 2018-2022, it added.
