Saudi Aramco resumes oil shipments through Red Sea route

DHAHRAN (Saudi Arabia), August 4, 2018

State oil giant Saudi Aramco said on Saturday that it has resumed oil shipments through Bab El Mandeb Strait.

The company had last month halted all its shipments through the route following an attack on two of its very large crude carriers (VLCCs), each with a two million barrels capacity, by Yemen's Houthi militia.

One of the ships had sustained minimal damage in the attack, said a statement from Saudi Aramco.

The move comes following the assurance from Coalition for Support of the Legitimacy in Yemen that all necessary measures have been taken by the Arab forces to guarantee continual freedom of maritime navigation and international trade across the Strait of Bab Al Mandab and South Red Sea.

Colonel Turki Al Malki, official spokesman of the Coalition  said that the command of the coalition forces have conducted an assessment in recent days of all terrorist acts carried out by the Houthi militias targeting free shipping in Bab Al Mandab Strait and south Red Sea.

The company will continue to monitor the situation and remain ready to take necessary actions in efforts to constantly ensure the safety and reliability of supply to its customers through its wide network which has the flexibility to export oil through multiple ports, said a statement from the company.

Saudi Aramco puts the utmost importance to environment and safety of its people and will take all necessary actions to safeguard people, assets and the environment while continuing to reliably supply energy to its customers, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
