Bahri fleet size rises to 91 with new VLCC

RIYADH, February 28, 2018

Saudi Arabia-based Bahri, a global leader in transportation and logistics, has accepted the delivery of ‘Qamran’, a Very Large Crude-oil Carrier (VLCC), bringing the total number of Bahri’s fleet to 91 vessels including 44 VLCCs.

The 300,000-DWT carrier is the third VLCC to join Bahri’s fleet this year, following the delivery of ‘Kassab’ in January and ‘Lawhah’ in February.

The new vessel has reinforced the company’s position as the largest VLCC owner and operator worldwide. Built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI), the world’s largest shipbuilding company based in South Korea, the new VLCC features a length of 330 meters and a width of 60 meters.

Bahri took the delivery of ‘Qamran’ at a ceremony held at the HSHI’s Mokpo shipyard in South Jeolla Province, South Korea. The carrier is part of the 10 VLCCs Bahri signed with the South Korean company in May 2015 in line with the Saudi conglomerate’s strategic long-term maritime growth and expansion plan.

“The addition of ‘Qamran’ to our already strong fleet is a new milestone in our growth journey and a true testament to the robustness of Bahri’s long-term expansion plans,” said Abdullah Aldubaikhi, CEO of Bahri.

“In addition to providing a significant boost to our efforts to deliver unprecedented growth and productivity in 2018, the new vessel will further enhance our maritime offering and enable us to expand our customer base by catering to the increased demand for crude-oil transportation across local and international markets. Further, ‘Qamran’ has solidified our position as a leader in the global maritime sector.

“Qamran has renewed our resolve to revolutionize the maritime industry through diversified and innovative solutions designed to meet various needs in the market. More importantly, it has further bolstered Bahri’s capability to continue our support to the Kingdom’s ambitious initiatives such as the Saudi Vision 2030, and contribute to the country’s efforts to reinforce its pre-eminent position as a strategic regional hub and logistics gateway across continents,” added Aldubaikhi. – TradeArabia News Service
