Saudi refinery Satorp wins key ISO certification

RIYADH, October 2, 2017

Saudi Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical Company (Satorp) said it has won ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems certification from top quality assurance provider Intertek.

A joint venture refinery between Saudi Aramco and French energy major Total, Satorp is based in Jubail region of Saudi Arabia and has a capacity to process 400,000 barrels per day (bpd) of Arabian heavy crude oil.

The company was set up as part of a broader package of investments aimed at transforming Saudi Aramco from a traditional oil and gas company into a global leader in energy and petrochemicals.

"Fulfilling the requirements of the internationally-recognised ISO 14001:2015 standard is an important feat for us," said Satorp's president and CEO Fawwaz Nawwab after receiving the ISO certificate from Samir Ahmed, the general manager at Intertek Saudi Arabia Business Assurance Division during an official handover ceremony.

"We are committed to the highest international environmental standards by delivering optimal results that comply with local environmental regulations and the requirements of our stakeholders," he noted.

This globally-recognised standard was developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and specifies organisations' requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving environmental management systems.

Ahmed, lauding the senior management team and employees for the feat, said: “This important milestone highlights our commitment to leading the oil and petrochemical industry with an outstanding environmental performance.”

"By achieving ISO 14001:2015 certification, Satorp has set the bar higher for other oil and petrochemical giants in the region to monitor and minimise their environmental footprint through a management system-based approach," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
