Dewa seals renewable energy pact with RWE

DUBAI, January 10, 2016

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has joined hands with RWE Technology, one of Europe’s leading engineering and project management companies, to boost co-operation in innovation, research and development in energy and smart grids, besides scientific research and sustainable development projects.

This supports Dewa’s vision to become a sustainable, innovative world-class utility and its strategy to promote and establish innovation in all energy fields, remarked Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the managing director and chief executive of Dewa, after signing the agreement with Dr Klaus Grellmann, RWE Consulting CEO.

Al Tayer pointed out that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the German firm supported Dewa’s strategy to adopt innovation as a key pillar and a corporate value, to achieve the Dubai Plan 2021 to become a city of happy, creative, and empowered people.

It also supports Dubai Innovation Strategy to make Dubai the most innovative city in the world, he noted.

According to him, the agreement is aimed at enhancing co-operation and the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and research in renewable energy, and technical, economic, and environmental analysis of alternative energy scenarios.

The scope also includes testing of smart grid measures, energy storing and efficiency, improved reliability of solar cells, and value-added products and services for smart grids and co-operation in academic and scientific programmes, he added.

On the Dewa partnership, Dr Grellmann expressed delight at RWE's fruitful co-operation with a high-profile government organisation such as Dewa.

"We intend to set an innovative role model in the region for the sustainable development and ease of connecting renewable energy sources with existing electricity grids. We are confident that Dewa’s excellent initiatives combined with RWE’s latest innovations and technologies will achieve this ambitious goal," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
