Dr Jawahery ... leading the turnaround at GPIC

GPIC set for massive overhaul operations

MANAMA, March 19, 2015

A massive maintenance and overhaul operation will get underway at the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) from March 21.

The company does the exercise once every two years during which all its plants and equipment undergo maintenance in collaboration with manufacturers and specialists, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

In the run up to the turnaround, a meeting of company officials to take stock of preparations was initiated by GPIC president Dr Abdulrahman Jawahery.

The meeting looked at plans, from bringing in the latest equipment from different parts of the world until the end of the process, as well as the participation of the best technicians and skilled workers from inside and outside Bahrain along with those within the company.

A comprehensive plan to adhere to the completion of maintenance operations as well as technical arrangements in preparation for the exercise were also discussed.

The company is working to ensure continuity of work and all high-efficiency production operations going on unhindered, during the turnaround exercise which will conclude on April 6.

GPIC general manager manufacturing Fadhel Al Ansari gave a detailed presentation and explained the operational and maintenance phases while other members of the executive management provided inputs according to their specialities.

Dr Jawahery said the company had already started making arrangements for the overhaul and had held several meetings to develop a road-map for the exercise.

He said the management had been co-ordinating and communicating with various government and private agencies to make sure heavy equipment and machinery required for the maintenance is delivered quickly and smoothly.

"Modern and sophisticated equipment has been brought in from different parts of the world such as Italy, Germany, Spain, Singapore, Austria, India, the UAE and Saudi Arabia," Dr Jawahery added.

He said the company has within its ranks young and qualified employees who have joined in the last few months and it was necessary that all employees work together to ensure the success of maintenance operations.

The president said they needed to continue to adhere to safety aspects both within and outside the plant so that all 4,000 of GPIC's employees work in a safe and secure environment.

During the period, the company also co-ordinates with various government agencies and private institutions to facilitate and secure access of equipment that would ensure the maximum level of security and safety for all those taking part.--Trade Arabia News Service
