AMG Project ONE hypercar

Mercedes-Benz unveils new models at Frankfurt show

FRANKFURT, September 14, 2017

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the world-first Mercedes-AMG Project ONE hypercar, equipped with Formula 1 hybrid drive technology for outstanding race track performance at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA).

Also making their debut at the show, were the new S-Class Coupé and S Class Cabriolet, as well as smart vision EQ fortwo concept car, the Concept EQA (the first all-electric EQ concept vehicle in the compact segment) and its innovative new fuel cell technology, Mercedes-Benz GLC F CELL.

“Taking engineering excellence to new levels is part of our Mercedes-Benz DNA, and the launch of the much-anticipated AMG Project ONE at IAA is an excellent demonstration of that,” said Lennart Mueller-Teut, head of Marketing & Communications, Mercedes-Benz Cars Middle East.

The same can be said for every Mercedes-Benz model and technological innovation being showcased here this year. As the inventor of the automobile, Mercedes-Benz has always pioneered automotive technologies, and new concepts such as the new smart vision EQ fortwo which we truly believe will be a game-changer for mobility across the world.”

Mercedes-Benz Project ONE
For the first time, the two-seater supersports car, Mercedes-AMG Project ONE, brings the very latest and most efficient, fully-fledged Formula 1 hybrid technology from the race track to the road, almost par for par to represent the highlight of AMG's 50th anniversary.

This high-performance hybrid is said to produce over 1,000 hp and reach top speeds beyond 350 km/h. The show car combines outstanding race track performance and day-to-day suitable Formula 1 hybrid technology with exemplary efficiency.

 Smart vision EQ fortwo

The smart vision EQ fortwo provides an intelligent solution for a new vision of urban mobility and individualised, highly flexible, totally efficient local public transport: the autonomous concept vehicle picks up its passengers directly from their chosen location.

With the electrically powered smart vision EQ fortwo, smart presented a concept vehicle from the relatively recent product and technology brand EQ at the 2017 Frankfurt International Motor Show. More than ten new electric cars are set to go into series production at Mercedes-Benz Cars by 2022, from the smart to large SUVs.

Mercedes-Benz announced that smart is being developed into the first all-electric brand within Daimler, with the vision to gradually adapt its portfolio of cars with combustion engines to fully electrically driven vehicles.

S-Class Coupé and Cabriolet

The spotlight also shined on the new S Class Coupé and S Class Cabriolet, in its various versions at Frankfurt - showcasing the latest updates to the Mercedes-Benz flagship range. The coupé and cabriolet will soon benefit from the same extensive innovations that have just been introduced to the spectacular sedan recently launched in the Middle East. The evolved design exudes even greater sportiness while showing off its exceptional technical ability.

The S-Class Coupé and Cabriolet feature front aprons with chrome-plated front splitter and voluminous air inlets. The dynamic looks are enhanced by restyled side skirts and chrome-plated twin tailpipe trims with a V12 look, while the innovative OLED tail lamps, widescreen cockpit, the latest driver assistant systems and comfort features ensure unquestionable leadership in the style and innovation stakes.

Concept EQA

The Concept EQA is the first all-electric EQ concept vehicle from Mercedes-Benz within the compact segment. Its permanent all-wheel drive with two electric motors delivers outstanding performance, with a system output that can be increased to more than 200 kW thanks to scalable battery components. In combination with the Mercedes-Benz intelligent operating strategy, the Concept EQA achieves a range of around 400 kilometres based on the installed battery capacity.

With significantly reduced seams and lines as well as the black panel at the front, which serves as a virtual grille, the vehicle is a further example of the systematic development of the design language of sensual purity. Its innovative lighting technology is based on laser fibres. The spiral light insignia stands for electric thinking and is visually evocative of the copper windings on an electric motor.

Fuel Cell Technology

Fuel cell technology is an integral part of Daimler's powertrain strategy. Mercedes-Benz has already gathered experience with hydrogen-powered electric vehicles over several vehicle generations. To date, the fleet of Daimler fuel cell vehicles, which together with a host of research vehicles is counted at more than 300, has collectively covered nearly 18 million kilometres. The next generation of fuel cell vehicles from Mercedes-Benz made its debut at the show. Currently being developed based on the GLC, the pre-production vehicle – the Mercedes-Benz GLC F CELL – combines innovative fuel cell and battery technology.

EQ Ready app

The new EQ Ready app helps motorists decide whether it makes sense for them personally to switch to an electric car or hybrid. The smartphone app can record real journeys made by the user, analyse his or her everyday mobility behaviour and compare it with numerous parameters of electric and hybrid vehicles. This makes it possible to try out e-mobility in a virtual yet realistic way. The EQ Ready app also recommends which alternatively powered model from smart or Mercedes-Benz best matches the user's individual behaviour. – TradeArabia News Service
