Liqui Moly was founded in Ulm, Germany in 1957 after the discovery of molybdenum disulphide, a dark grey crystalline mineral, which was then mixed to produce liquid molybdenum disulphide. Deriving its name from it, Liqui Moly held the patent for the production of this mineral and used it as basis to develop an engine oil additive.

Developed and tested at Liqui Moly’s own laboratories, and manufactured only in Germany, its motor oils also earned the official approval of all major car manufacturers for the proven benefits it brings in lengthening engine life and protecting it even if there was no oil left for lubrication.
