The Saudi city of Dammam will host the 5th West Asian Football Federation U17 Girls Championship, the WAFF U17 Girls Championship, from February 7 to 16, with the participation of six teams: Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Bahrain.
The WAFF has scheduled Monday as the date for the tournament draw, which will take place in the Jordanian capital, Amman, reported SPA.
The matches will be held at Prince Saud bin Jalawi Sports City Stadium in Al-Khobar. The championship will follow a group stage format with two groups, where the top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals.
The championship is especially significant as it is being hosted in the Kingdom for the first time, reinforcing its status as a regional and international sports hub. It also presents a valuable opportunity for the U17 national girls' team to continue developing and preparing for upcoming international competitions.
Vice President of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) and Chair of the WAFF Women’s Committee, Lamia Bahaian, welcomed the participating teams, emphasizing that hosting the championship aligns with ongoing efforts to promote women’s football in the Kingdom. She also noted that it aims to enhance the skills of Saudi players by having them compete against high-level regional teams.
