A workshop aimed at educating Bahrain’s lawyers about the workings of a special unit set up within the Public Prosecution to investigate complaints against the police was held yesterday (November 24) evening. The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) was formed in 2012 as a result of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry recommendations, with the mandate to investigate claims of torture and other forms of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
