The GCC Interior ministers at the summit
GCC nations stand united against terror
KUWAIT CITY, July 3, 2015
The security of GCC nations is indivisible, the interior ministers said last night, vowing to stand united against the scourge of terrorism.
The ministers urged improved joint action to strengthen security and stability in GCC countries, stressing the need for a common mechanism to ensure speedy exchange of information about terror related cases, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
This came as Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa led Bahrain’s delegation to the GCC Interior Ministers’ extraordinary meeting in Kuwait late last night.
GCC Secretary-General Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani also took part.
The meeting reviewed details of the heinous terrorist attack on Imam Al Sadiq Mosque in Kuwait City last Friday which left a number of innocent worshippers dead and injured.
The ministers strongly condemned the traitorous act and extended their sincere sympathy and heartfelt condolences to Kuwaiti Amir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah and bereaved families.
Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Shaikh Mohammed Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah briefed the ministers on efforts exerted by Kuwait’s specialised security agencies to unveil the circumstances surrounding the hideous crime and arrest perpetrators in record time.
The ministers expressed pride over the patriotic spirit demonstrated by Kuwaiti people through solidarity, coherence and holding on to their national unity, which was a clear message to those seeking to foment dissension and sectarian strife that their evil, criminal plans are doomed to fail.
The ministers recalled the horrid terrorist acts recently perpetrated in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and attacks against mosques in Dalwa, Qudaih and Dammam in Saudi Arabia, describing such terror plans as alien to Islamic values and principles advocating tolerance and moderation.
They also denounced other terrorist incidents which targeted Suwaif Saudi Border Centre and attempts to smuggle weapons and explosives into GCC countries.
They reiterated their firm resolve to combat terrorism and dry up sources of its funding as well as the perverted ideologies feeding it, calling on Muslim youth to be cautious and alert and steer clear of subversive ideas and those disseminating them.
They also stressed the key role played by religious scholars and the media in projecting the real image of Islam shunning extremism and violence, urging the need for concerted international efforts and co-operation in order to eradicate the scourge of terrorism and dry up sources of its financing. - TradeArabia News Service
