Voting in 34 constituencies nationwide
Second round of voting begins in Bahrain
MANAMA, November 29, 2014
Thousands of Bahrainis and expatriates will go to the polls again today for the second round of voting in parliament and municipal council elections, a report said.
Voting will take place in 34 constituencies nationwide where parliament seats are still up for grabs and 21 in the Southern, Muharraq and Northern governorates where municipal council seats are still vacant, reported the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
Six parliamentary candidates and nine municipal councillors were elected in the first round of voting last Saturday, having secured more than 50 per cent of the votes in their constituencies.
The second round will see the two highest polling candidates go head to head in constituencies where nobody claimed more than half of the vote, with the one securing the most votes today declared the outright winner.
Six women are among the 22 parliament hopefuls who have made it through to the second round.
Another five women are contesting municipal council seats in the run-off.
Sunni Islamic societies will face off against each other in two constituencies in the second round.
High Elections Committee chief executive and Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission president Abdulla Al Buainain has inspected polling stations to ensure they are prepared for today's election.
Only Bahrainis can vote for MPs, but expatriates who own property can vote for municipal council candidates.
Voters should show up at polling stations with their passports and CPR cards, or a polling card issued by the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs between 8am and 8pm. - TradeArabia News Service
