Bahrain to showcase e-govt expertise at UN forum

MANAMA, October 2, 2014

A Bahraini delegation is set to showcase its smart governance experience at an e-government forum, which will take place in Kazakhstan next week.

The 2014 UN Global eGovernment Forum, under the slogan ‘Smart Governance for Sustainable Development: New Opportunities for Partnerships in the Networked Society,’ will run from October 6 to 8.

The delegation will be chaired by Dr Zakareya Ahmed AlKhaja, the vice chief executive officer of the eGovernment Authority and will seek to exchange knowledge and expertise as well as enhance the government’s capacity in promoting smart governance, through the discussion of best policies, strategies and practices in smart governance, and developed societies.

It will provide valuable insights on the new e-government trends as well as utilising new approaches adopted in the 2014 United Nations eGovernment Survey, with a core focus on experiences taken from various countries across the globe in eGovernance, in order to foster cooperation between the developed and developing countries to achieve  the  delivery of  better public services.

The forum will include a plenary session with selected presentations of eGovernment’s Survey Award winners, the 2014 UN eGovernment Survey Award Ceremony, and four workshops that continue onto  the second day with a ministerial roundtable and closing ceremony. It will also include field tours and transfer of expertise.

Dr AlKhaja will address Bahrain’s expertise in eGovernance, and its competitiveness that has helped Bahrain to reach global milestone achievements as Bahrain ranks the 18th place worldwide as per this year's United Nations eGovernment Survey.

He will also shed light on the Bahrain eGovernment Strategy and highlights its national projects, with a core focus on the citizens ‘needs and engagement in setting policies and using  multiple delivery channels of public services.

Abdullah Habib, head of the Enterprise Architecture Governance at eGovernment Authority, will deliver a presentation on the evaluation of e-services in which he addresses the delivery of integrated services that are aligned with the public needs through various channels, in addition to Bahrain’s eGovernment success stories in terms of multiple delivery channels of public services, along with the current trends towards the integration and circulation of services .

The UN will award countries that have set high standards for e-government development and ranked in advanced levels in the UN eGovernment Survey 2014.

Over 50 leading figures are expected to attend this forum from all over the world as representatives of various governments and international organisations such as the United Nations, UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). - TradeArabia News Service
