Journalist hurt in violent protests in Bahrain
Manama, February 16, 2014
A journalist was injured when violence erupted following an anti-government protest on Budaiya Highway yesterday.
Briton Amjad Taha, who works for Dubai-based broadcaster Al Arabiya, was pelted with stones by thugs following an earlier peaceful rally by Al Wefaq, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
He sustained head injuries but was treated at the scene, according to witnesses.
The rally caused heavy traffic in the area with one witness describing the scene as "absolute chaos" as roadblocks were installed along the main entrances and exits to the Budaiya Highway.
Thousands turned out to chant slogans and wave banners, but the scene turned violent once the procession had passed and a splinter group of rioters headed towards Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway and clashed with police.
They threw rocks and Molotov cocktails. The Interior Ministry said a group of rioters were dispersed after blocking the road at 5pm. - TradeArabia News Service
