Bahrain, S Korea to bolster bilateral ties

Bahrain and South Korea have agreed to set up a supervisory body to monitor bilateral co-operation, a report said.

This came as HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and his South Korean counterpart Chung Hong-won chaired official talks in Manama, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

The Supreme joint Bahraini-Korean Committee will be in charge of supervising co-operation in the fields of investment, technology, transfer of expertise, eGovernment services and cultural projects.

The Premier asserted that Chung's visit was timely and reflected South Korea's support to Bahrain.

He said the government sees the visit as political and economic support, which he said, "Bahrain values highly".

He said the memoranda that were signed is a frame to further consolidate ties between the countries.

He lauded the constructive role played by South Korean companies in the fields of infrastructure and transfer of expertise.

Meanwhile, Chung described Bahrain as a land of peace, security and stability and hailed its efforts to combat terrorism.

Chung said the efforts are carried out in the "right way thanks to the wise leadership of His Majesty King Hamad".

He also said National Consensus Dialogue would contribute to fostering the kingdom's stability.

An official welcoming ceremony was held earlier at Gudaibiya Palace in honour of Mr Chung's arrival.

The national anthems of the two countries were played and then the two leaders inspected a guard of honour.

Writing in the VIP register, Chung expressed delight at visiting Bahrain, and voiced gratitude to the Premier for the warm welcome and hospitality accorded to him and his delegation.

Later, the Premier saw off Chung at the airport in the presence of deputy premiers, senior officials and diplomats. – TradeArabia News Service
