Manama, May 26, 2013

Radical Shia groups, claiming to be human rights defenders in Bahrain and other GCC countries, have received more than $2 million in financial support from a US institute, a report said.

The support was received from the US National Democratic Institute (NDI) in less than a year under different programmes, according to a document obtained by Arabic website Bahrain News, said the report in the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

The document stressed that the NDI provided these radical groups with large amounts to implement political programmes concerning change in the Gulf.

It revealed that a year-long Change in Bahrain programme received $370,000, while Iran’s Base Activity programme, which ran from February 2011 to January last year, received $320,000. – TradeArabia News Service
