Manama, December 12, 2012

The international lawyers pro bono forum, which is under establishment in Bahrain, has convened with the objective of setting up a plan to begin its activities of undertaking voluntary projects for the benefit of society.

Kuwait Finance House-Bahrain executive manager Paul Mercer said he had received a lot of positive feedback about the establishment of the forum, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

He said it was crucial that the forum builds on this momentum by starting its pro bono work soon.

Mercer said he was encouraged by the growing size of the forum which welcomed additional international lawyers DLA Piper's Aaron Dikos, First Energy Bank's David Hudson, Trowers & Hamlin's Niall McMorrow, Al Salam Bank's Nicole Phillips and PGC's Afshan Akhta and Gulfam Hussain whom are keen to offer their services.

Dikos said he and his law firm DLA Piper had a long tradition of undertaking voluntary work and is keen to continue this in Bahrain.

Clive Hopewell, partner at Charles Russell, said he and his firm were very much looking forward to seeing the forum begin its activities.

He suggested that the forum could start by organising training and education events.

McMorrow said the forum was also looking at charitable and fundraising activities as he and his firm would be delighted to be involved in such activities.-TradeArabia News Service
