Haya water reuse to connect 20pc by month-end

Muscat, December 20, 2011

Haya Water, which operates water reuse projects in Muscat, is aiming to connect 20 per cent of the population by the end of 2011, with plans to connect up to 60 per cent by the end of 2012.

It also plans to connect up to 80 per cent in the following five to six years after that.

Haya Water is ensuring that every effort is undertaken to ensure the restoration of areas that have been affected by construction work to implement the project, a statement said.

In the Al Mabeela area, every week contractors for the company are restoring and reinstating 800 metres of roads that needed to be disturbed for the modern pipelines to be put in place.

Already over 15 kilometres of roads have been reinstated to their former condition by the contractor as Haya continues to ensure it completes its commitment to ensure that residential and business areas affected by the project are restored to the former condition.

All of the work is being undertaken under the direct supervision of the Highways Department of Muscat Municipality to ensure that the reinstatement work complies with the surfacing and conditions of the rest of the road network in the Muscat area.

“As a company we fully recognise our responsibilities to the public and to companies who are impacted by the development of our project as it is rolled out across the whole of the Muscat Governorate and we are working to ensure that roads and pavements are properly restored – often ensuring they are in better condition than they were before construction,” said Mohammed Ahmed Al Gemaiey, senior area manager at Haya Water.

“In a water reuse project of this size, scope and complexity, there is a need for extensive construction works to be undertaken to ensure that we successfully connect homes and companies to our water reuse system that will bring so many benefits to everyone living and working in Muscat.”

The water reuse project that Haya Water is now developing is the largest and most ambitious of its kind ever undertaken in the Gulf region.

No project of this scale and complexity has ever been undertaken in an established built-up urban area before and will ultimately connect thousands of homes and businesses to a safe, cleaner and healthier modern waste water system is rapidly making an impact all over the city, according to the statement.

Haya Water is laying thousands of kilometres of pipeline to ensure it connects its six major projects that include the overall Muscat water reuse project comprises of six major developments that include Seeb, Bousher, Muscat, Muttrah, Amerat and Quriyat where individual water re-use  plants are being constructed. – TradeArabia News Service
