Bahrain cinemas closed due to unrest

Manama, March 16, 2011

Cinemas across Bahrain remained closed yesterday due to the ongoing unrest.

It was the second consecutive day of disruptions for screens at the Bahrain City Centre mall, Seef Mall, Saar Cineplex, Al Jazeera Cineplex, Awal Cinema, Al Hamra Cinema and Dana Mall Cinema.

Officials were uncertain about how long it would take for the situation to normalise, but said new films that were due to be screened this weekend would be shown in the future.

The cinema at the Dana Mall in Sanabis will also remain closed today, said an official.

However, Bahrain Cinema and Film Distribution Company (Cineco) will decide today whether or not to remain closed, a spokesman told our sister newspaper Gulf Daily News (GDN).

'It (the unrest) has definitely affected us, there's no doubt about it,' he said.

'I really don't know what to say to this question.

'We have no intuition and no news about what's been going on.

'No movie will just be shelved forever and we should be showing them later on.

'We all just hope and expect things to improve soon.'-TradeArabia News Service
