Plea for martial law in Bahrain

Manama, March 14, 2011

Bahrain's Al Asala and the Independent Bloc last night appealed to His Majesty King Hamad to enforce martial law.

They called for the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) to intervene to preserve security and stability. The blocs also urged a ban on all illegitimate acts, which may instigate violence and terrorise innocent people.

They urged the King to enforce martial law for three months and also impose a curfew and deploy BDF units across Bahrain.

Meanwhile, Al Asala threatened to question Interior Minister Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa over his alleged failure to maintain security and protect people’s lives and property.

The National Unity Gathering and political societies appealed to all citizens to exercise self-restraint. The joint statement was issued as Gathering representatives led by Dr Abdullatif Al Mahmood met representatives of seven societies led by Al Wefaq secretary general Shaikh Ali Salman.-TradeArabia News Service
